You know that other women’s network? I’m talking about the one that your mom and grandma watch on Sunday afternoons because there’s nothing else to do. “Extraordinary Measures” is a movie that you’d find there. It would be right in between a Nora Roberts romance movie and a tearjerker about a mother fighting for her daughter.
“Extraordinary Measures” is inspired by the true story of John Crowley’s determined journey to find a cure for his children’s fatal disease. John (a chunky Brendan Fraser) quits his job and stalks a brilliant but cranky doctor who is on the verge of discovering a cure. The rest of the movie is a roller coaster ride of pained looks from the Crowley parents and kids and temper tantrums from Dr. Stonehill (Harrison Ford). If you don’t have a headache when the credits start rolling, you are a trooper!
I won’t spoil the ending for you, but you can guess what happens. Seriously, they wouldn’t have turned this “true story” into a movie if the plan failed and the kids died. I’d suggest keeping your money and waiting for this one to join your grandma’s Sunday movie line-up.
